Vasyli Orthotics FAQs

What are Vasyli Orthotics used for?

Vasyli orthotics are designed to help treat most common foot problems, including, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis, metatarsalgia, hallux abducto valgus, patellofemoral pain, lower back pain, tibial stress syndrome and iliotibial band syndrome.

We have a range of alternative products that are also great for alleviating foot pain including Plantar Massage Balls, Heel Pads and Heel Cups.

How do I choose the right Vasyli Orthotics for me?

First determine the density you need. Vasyli orthotics are available in three different densities: low (green: <50kg / 110lbs), medium (blue: 50-80kg / 110-176lbs) and high (red: > 80kg / 176lbs). Generally, blue surfaces for most people, but if you need greater control then opt for red, or less control then consider green.

Second, select a style that fits your footwear. Vasyli orthotics come in a range length options to suit most shoes; Full-length, ¾-length, Slimfit and Easyfit.

Finally, pick an insole that closely fits the contour of your foot. For greater accuracy, simply place the orthotic on the foot and see how it compares to your natural contours. Make sure the distal edge of the orthotic finishes 5-10 mm behind the bisection of the first metatarsophalangeal angle of the foot.

Why do my Orthotics hurt?

It may take a few days for feet to become accustomed to your new orthotics. If discomfort occurs, remove them for one to two hours, then place them back in. Continue this until they begin feeling comfortable.

If discomfort persists after the typical 'break-in period' (3 to 5 days), you may need to re-assess the density of your orthotic.

We have a range of products that are great for alleviating foot pain including Plantar Massage Balls, Heel Pads and Heel Cups.

How long before Orthotics stops hurting?

As a general rule, it shouldn't take more than 3 to 5 days to achieve all-day comfort. Ongoing discomfort may require a review of the density of your orthotic.

Which shoes are best for Orthotics?

Vasyli orthotics and insoles are deigned to fit a range of different shoe types. Full-length orthotics are great for boots and athletic wear, ¾-length for regular footwear, Slimfit for high-heels, and Easyfit for narrow-fitting shoes like loafers and pumps.

Do I need to wear Vasyli Orthotics in pairs?

Typically, yes. The orthotics balance the lower limbs so only wearing one can impact progress. Always opt for wearing a pair, even if the pain or issue is only felt in one foot or limb.

How long do Vasyli Orthotics last?

Vasyli insoles typically last between 12 to 18 months, however activity and patient weight can influence their longevity.

How do I heat my Orthotics?

Healthcare professionals may use heat moulding for extra fine-tuning when fitting your orthotics, but feedback shows that at least 80% of practitioners do not need heat moulding to achieve a good fit.

  1. To heat mould your orthotics, remove any existing insoles from your chosen footwear and place the orthotic on a heat resistant surface.
  2. Apply heat of approx. 200°F / 90°C in a waving motion directly over the thermal indicator on the insole, once the thermal indicator and lettering on the STC has disappeared, the desired moulding temperature has been achieved.
  3. Place the orthotic into the chosen footwear and push down at the back with both thumbs to ensure it fits square.
  4. Place the foot into the shoe (note: socks should be worn and fitting must be done one shoe at a time) while seated so the STJ is in a neutral position via the Talonavicular technique and support this position while you stand. Ensure weight is evenly distributed on both feet.
  5. Cup the heel, mould along the medial arch profile, and push down onto the forefoot.
  6. Sit down to remove the shoe, take out the orthotic and allow it to cool.
  7. Repeat the process for the opposite foot.

Can I reheat my Orthotics?

Yes, if required the orthotics can be reheated.

However, you cannot "regenerate" the rearfoot control by heat-moulding. That requires the use of the rearfoot additions.

Do I need to heat my Vasyli Orthotics?

The Vasyli heat-mouldable orthotics are made to suit most foot types. Heat moulding allows for extra fine-tuning fit-wise, but feedback shows that at least 80% of practitioners do not need to mould them to achieve good compliance and control.

Can I wear insoles with Orthotics?

No, its best to remove all insoles inside the footwear being fitted with orthotics. If the orthotics are fitted on top of existing insoles, it will "de-tune" its effectiveness and may contribute to arch intolerance. As a general rule, if the footwear has a full-length insole fitted, replace it with a full-length orthotic.

Should orthotics be worn at all time?

Orthotics are great for helping to improve alignment, distribute weight evenly and absorb shock with ground contact. If you stop wearing orthotics, then issues may reappear.

How do I clean Vasyli Orthotics?

Covering on Vasyli orthotics contains an antibacterial / antimicrobial compound to eliminate odours so cleaning isn't necessary, but for general cleaning, wipe the orthotics with a damp mild-soapy cloth, rinse, towel dry, and air naturally. Do not soak or machine wash.
