Actimove Supports and Braces

We teamed up with Essity to supply you with their Actimove range of Over-the-counter orthopaedics braces. Essity is the parent company of BSN Medical, which is a global leader in medical solutions, focusing on wound care & related vascular diseases, lymphology, and non-invasive orthopaedics products. Their experience in developing innovative and revolutionary orthopaedics products means that the Actimove products meet the needs of the user more effectively by creating research-driven solutions that provide targeted pain relief, are more comfortable, and do not restrict you from enjoying everyday activities or sports. Actimove supports and braces help you recover from a sports-related injury faster or can be used to help alleviate various types of movement-related pain. Actimove provides pain relief and support that is tailored to your specific needs. The range of innovative medically engineered braces and supports are very stable and reliable (they are thoroughly tested and adapted to meet your needs) but they are also non-restrictive in any way. The range covers all your needs from alleviating arthritis pain, recovering from an injury or accident, or general movement pain-related challenges.

The Actimove® sports edition range can be used as a solution to a wide range of sports-related injuries or general support, whether you have the dreaded tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), need more effective support when hiking, have a marathon or a long-distance running event. The Actimove sports range also covers supports and braces that can be used on more severe injuries and conditions such as:

Or other conditions and injuries such as:

* Please refer to our Wrist Support and Knee Support guides for a more comprehensive explanation about how you can use Actimove supports and braces to address these specific conditions and injuries.

Why should I choose Actimove?

Actimove Sports Edition

The Actimove sports edition uses an innovative approach to pain management because unlike similar products on the market, Actimove is neoprene free and latex-free, instead, it uses a soft foam alternative combined with the COOLMAX® AIR material lining. The feedback and research that drove this revolutionary approach to Supports and Braces suggest that younger, more active people usually wear neoprene braces & supports to help with sports injuries or to prevent re-injury. A very understandable complaint about these is that they are too hot to wear due to the nature of Neoprene (it is a synthetic rubber material) and this causes the user to sweat and can make the support or brace feel very uncomfortable due to it not being very breathable. Actimove Sports Edition aims to provide pain relief and healing through balanced warmth and medical compression as opposed to some supports on the market such as sleeves that often have no actual medical compression unless they are produced by a reputable company. Actimove sports edition offers superior comfort from effective moisture management design as well as making use of skin-friendly, breathable materials.

Rehabilitation and additional functionality of the range

Besides the Sports Edition, Actimove also offers other pain and injury-related solutions, their professional over the counter supports and braces can be instrumental in providing patients with serious orthopaedic injuries the healing support and pain managing qualities that they need. This way you can mitigate the pain and recover sooner without causing any unnecessary damage to your pre-existing injury. If you’ve had an operation or surgery because of a severe injury then Actimove Supports and Braces could be the help to provide you with effective care and support so that your recovery is worry-free and rehabilitation is aided by care oriented and effective supports and braces. The Actimove professional line does this by providing high-quality functionality through support, stabilization and immobilisation. Immobilization is particularly important with major surgeries such as ACL and MCL tear surgeries which involve reconstruction of ligaments and need strong, effective support solutions to reduce the chances of an extended recovery.

Among the Actimove products that we supply, some are appropriate for everyday use and more general support. As we get older, degenerative joint diseases become more of concern and we need that extra bit of support and care in order to combat the effects of these conditions and help us to feel confident in putting pressure on certain joints and muscles. Actimove aims to provide specifically tailored supports and braces that make life a little easier by giving you back the confidence and stress-free feeling that you can only get from medical compression pain relief. The supports reduce edema and are durable enough to become one of your trusty essentials.

The extensive range from Actimove even covers Arthritis Care. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis can be extremely painful conditions and are typically characterised as inducing chronic pain, they are increasingly common amongst the elderly but early onset of these conditions isn’t uncommon either. People diagnosed with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis strive to find effective and reliable supports that can help them to relieve some of the pain and prevent any damage that could worsen the feelings of severe discomfort. Actimove Arthritis Care supports aim to do this by aiding pain relief and increasing joint mobility through soothing warmth and compression. For arthritis in the wrist, please see our Wrist supports and for Arthritis in the knee, please see the respective Knee supports category.  For all Arthritis Supports, please see the Arthritis Supports category.

Actimove Supports and Braces FAQs

Do supports and braces really work?

Supports and braces can be helpful for a number of reasons:

Do supports help with pain and discomfort?

A support or brace may help to take pressure off the part of your joint and help relieve pain. If your joint feels like it might give way during movement, a brace may also help you to move around with more confidence and comfort.

What is the difference between Actimove and Actimove Sports Edition?

Standard supports and braces can often become too hot and cause excessive sweating during sport and other activities, Actimove Sports Edition, on the other hand, is designed to keep you cool. It’s made with COOLMAX® AIR Technology providing exceptional breathability, which helps aids pain relief and healing while maintaining excellent moisture management to stop you from overheating and over sweating.

When is the best time to wear Supports and Braces?

Your doctor or medical professional will be able to provide you with exact guidance on how long you should wear a support or brace for your specific needs.

Typically, they are worn for a period of weeks after injury or surgery.

Can you wear a knee brace all day?

Yes, if needed you can wear a knee brace all day. If you have a particular injury or are participating in an activity or sport, wearing your support can help provide extra protection.

Can I wear my support or brace to bed?

Typically it is fine to wear your support or brace at night if needed unless otherwise instructed by a medical professional or doctor. We would advise seeking professional advice for guidance on your exact needs.

What is the correct fit for supports and braces – tight or loose?

It is important that the correct size of Support or Brace is worn for it to be effective. To find your size, simply measure the area needing support and match it against the size chart on the chosen product's page. It is important your support feels comfortable, it should not feel too tight.

What does Universal Size mean? Will the support fit me?

Universally sized products are designed to fit most body types. If you’re unsure, each product page details the maximum size that the support will fit up to.

What are the different types of knee brace? How do I know which brace is right for me?

  1. Knee Supports are typically popular with athletes experiencing mild to moderate knee pain as they offer more protection and stability than standard knee sleeves, without restricting movement.
  2. Hinged Knee Braces are mostly used post-surgery or by athletes requiring higher levels of protection and support. They restrict movement and keep the knee in the proper alignment when it bends to help prevent further injury.
  3. Knee Straps help prevent injuries to the patella and add compression to the patellar tendon to ease the pain. They are particularly helpful for those suffering from runner’s or jumper’s knee (patellar tendonitis).
  4. Open Patella Braces offer support and work to ease pressure on the knee, whereas Closed Patella Braces offer compression on the kneecap to offer additional support.
