Ankle Supports
An unstable and weak ankle can dramatically affect one’s confidence in their ability to confidently put pressure on the ankle which can subsequently affect how you run or jump and in extreme cases, it can change how you walk which can, of course, become a daily concern. Regular exercise or walking can be helpful with developing stronger ankles that properly support our body weight. Losing excess weight and doing ankle strengthening exercises that target the joints and muscles in the ankle are also extremely effective at making sure our Ankles are sturdy and dependable. If you are managing your ankle strength and still find that your ankles are not stable enough then extra support in the form of ankle supports could be the answer to less painful physical activity and worry-free everyday activities. We have a wide range of Ankle supports and braces that aim to help you keep active without being concerned about doing any serious damage or picking up an injury. Our range even includes braces tailored for recovery from an operation, ankle surgery or severely painful injury. Our diverse range includes Mueller, Actimove, Aircast and SwedeO
Ankle Supports FAQs
The following information is not meant to be in any way prescriptive and is merely content that has been compiled to help you make an informed decision about which product could suit you. Please remember to contact your physician or sports medicine professional for proper, qualified guidance.
Do ankle braces really work?
Studies have indicated that ankle supports and braces can drastically reduce the chance of you picking up an injury rather than reducing the severity of the injury. This means that they work in the sense that they protect you from avoidable injuries and can be used to prevent further damage or re-injury of the ankle.
What is the best support for weak ankles?
Weak ankles benefit from having structured support that properly protects the ankle and controls the range of motion in the joint by restricting the ankle and avoiding unnatural, damaging positions that can cause injuries such as ankle sprains. The Aircast A60 ankle brace is probably therefore the best option, Andy Murray has been known to use this exact ankle support.
How long should I wear my ankle brace for?
It’s best to follow the guidance given to you by your physician. If you have an ankle sprain or similar ankle injury then wearing a support or brace for everyday activities is advisable but if you find the compression to be too sore on your ankle then wearing it for an hour at a time, multiple times over the course of the day. For full recovery, it is usually recommended that your wear an ankle brace for about 12 months depending on the severity of your injury and the results of an assessment carried out by a trained medical professional. However, try to avoid depending on the ankle brace too much as the ankle muscles will weaken.
What is the best brace for a rolled ankle?
If you have a rolled ankle, then an elastic support with medical compression is recommendable. The Actimove elastic wrap-around ankle support can be used for mild sprains and preventing the ankle from rolling. The support can even be used for swelling, tenderness and as a precaution for preventing injuries.
