Manual Lymphatic Drainage UK
MLDUK was founded in 1995 as a voluntary regulatory body for MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) therapists.
The broad objectives are to promote, educate and raise awareness of MLD, ensuring a high standard of MLD therapists.
MLDUK maintains an official register of qualified, trained and insured therapists. Therefore, all applicants are required to provide evidence of appropriate training from one of the recognised MLD schools. Then, because of advances in knowledge and the importance of maintaining skills, they must undertake a biennial update of both theory and practice. All members must also carry adequate indemnity insurance and abide by the MLDUK Code of Conduct and Professional Practice Guidelines.
Since 2008, MLDUK has also operated the Lymfund charity to support people requiring MLD treatment who can not afford and are unable to access via NHS.
Key Aspects of MLDUK and MLD Therapy:
- Purpose: To educate health care professionals and the public, promote best practices, and maintain high standards in MLD.
- What is MLD? A gentle, specialised, non-invasive technique used to stimulate the lymphatic system, reduce swelling (lymphoedema), and remove excess waste fluid.
- Usage Examples: MLD is used for treating primary/secondary lymphedema, reducing swelling after cancer treatment, cosmetic/medical surgery, managing pain, easing digestive issues (IBS), aiding recovery from chronic fatigue or viruses, and treating skin conditions.
The current register of members and other information about MLDUK can be accessed by the general public and other healthcare professionals through the website.
